Interrogating Practice: Update

Writer's picture: Angus, The PhotographerAngus, The Photographer

with all of my research and work leading up to now for the interrogating practice assignment in my notebooks and journals, I am currently in the process of digitising these to put up on my blog. I've not been active on my blog since setting it up so I'm working to get it in shape with my work and progress. However, now is a good opportunity to address a significant change in the direction of this assignment given the current and ongoing global situation.

In the weeks prior to lockdown, my housemates and I had decided to go into self-isolation after a couple of us felt slightly ill and a couple of housemates had been working in the service industry during the recent race-week, that went ahead regardless of the obvious risk that was later proved to be a major factor in the spread of Covid-19 across the UK.

My original project this term was going to be continuing my research into Brutalism and ambience in the research module, bringing key findings over to this practical module to implement into my body of photographic work. In this, I would be aiming to produce a series of high finish, presentationally ready prints that I would frame and hopefully display. But with no access to any university resources or facilities, despite paying full price fee's, I had to mothball this project as a film processing lab, scanning suite and a darkroom would be essential to this.

I have therefore decided to instead, pick up two ideas that I had shelved earlier in the year to the weather at the time. These were creating some or a series of Cyanotype process images and the Second to experiment with and create some striking infrared images with filters on my Canon 7D. I will be working on getting some research, methodology and images up on this blog in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned,

Angus
